Trip to Pangkor Island

Few months ago, hubby & I decided to go on our 1st trip (together) to Pangkor Island for walk-around and photography. Both hubby & I are from Sitiawan but that was our 1st trip together there.

We departed early in the morning from Lumut Jetty. The ferry ride took us approximately 20-30mins to get to our destination. There are 2 stops - Sg. Pinang (fishing village) & Pangkor (tourist attraction).

Our 1st stop was over at Sg. Pinang. It was drizzling that morning, so we decided to take shelter in one of the coffee shop. While waiting for the rain to subside, we had a quick bite at the coffee shop. We had a pack of the local nasi lemak bungkus each, iced coffee and iced milo from the coffee shop. Then we ordered laksa and steamed otak-otak from a stall nearby. Afternoon we had chee cheong fun.

The verdicts - Nasi Lemak:
  • The rice is fragrant with santan and fluffy.
  • Sambal not too spicy with a tinge of sourness (from the assam jawa).
  • Fish was cut a bit too small and bony.
  • It's different from the Nasi Lemak Bungkus from Sitiawan market.

The verdicts - Laksa & Steamed Otak-Otak:
  • Taste of the laksa was very different from the usual Assam Laksa.
  • It has the sweet, sour and spiciness combination with santan. A cross combination of curry with assam laksa.
  • Ingredients are local handmade noodle, fish cake, long beans, bean sprouts, fried scrimp and fried shallots.
  • I find the noodle a bit soft for my taste.
 The verdicts - Steamed Otak-Otak:
  • The steamed otak-otak has sweet fragrant taste and smell of "daun kadok".
  • Very few pieces of fish fillet in it.
  • Not too spicy.

The verdicts - Chee Cheung Fun:
  • Sweet and sour sauce was just prefect for the noodle.
  • Noodle was made of steamed rice flour with chives.
  • However, the noodle tasted floury and thick to my liking.

Overall we spent less than RM20 on food & drinks for 2 persons.
